CHARACTER INFORMATION
PORTRAYAL
This character is mostly based on Marvel's Earth-616 version of Kaine Parker, where he began life as a failed clone of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, but origins and events may differ from established canon (refer to ALT CANON and TIMELINE OF EVENTS sections for more detail).
NOTE: Allowances can be made when interacting with characters from other canons (e.g. MCU, DCU, OC 'verses).

ALT CANON
While Kaine may appear to be in his early 30s, he is chronologically 10 years old, having been cloned from a then 20 year old Peter Parker. The cloning process accelerated his biological and mental age to the same age as Peter when he was cloned (i.e. 20 years old).
Kaine is stronger, faster, and taller (6'4") than Peter Parker and Ben Reilly (5'10") due to Miles Warren's tweaking of Parker's DNA during the cloning process. This has also resulted in further mutation in Kaine's own DNA, affecting the evolution of his abilities.
Kaine's unique mutation seems to grant him a form of immortality. Instead of breaking down upon death, his cells will regenerate and eventually restore him to life. However, every resurrection comes at a cost: a piece of his humanity. Killed enough times, Kaine will eventually devolve into a mindless, savage creature in the form of The Other.
Kaine can turn his eyes red/black on command.
Kaine's precognitive spider-sense is more developed than that of Spider-Man; where Parker and Reilly can sense immediate danger, Kaine can actually see short glimpses of the future. Kaine also does not set off Parker or Reilly's spider-senses, but they do not set off his either.
Kaine's questionable morality can be attributed to his lack of a moral compass, having had no nurturing figure (e.g. Uncle Ben, Aunt May, etc) in his life to guide him through tough times. As such, his decisions are often self-serving, and very rarely altruistic.
Kaine's brutality stems from his belief that no one deserves mercy for their sins, as he himself was abandoned by his creator (Miles Warren) for no reason other than being a flawed experiment. Harboring a deep-seated rage against humanity, Kaine will not hesitate to kill anyone who gets on his bad side.
Kaine has been active as the Scarlet Spider for 7 years, having spent 3 of his 10 years of existence as a lone wanderer without purpose or identity of his own.
While there may be many Variants of Kaine throughout the multiverse, this incarnation of Kaine exists as a Splinter (a branching of one Variant) across most universes (see YEAR 10 of TIMELINE OF EVENTS for more detail). It may be possible for someone to encounter multiple Variants of Kaine on any one universe, but there may only be one Splinter in every universe.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
YEAR 0
Kaine is ābornā, cloned from a sample of Peter Parkerās blood.
Kaineās creator - Professor MIles Warren - implants Parkerās memories into Kaineās mind, and begins to recondition him into believing that he is indeed Parker.
Warren takes out his frustrations with Peter on Kaine, physically abusing his creation while pretending that Kaine is truly Peter.
Warren discovers signs of cellular degeneration on Kaine and shuns him, deeming him a failure, an imperfect clone of Peter, and decides to start over.
Despite considering Kaine a flawed experiment, Warren keeps him around to study the effects of his cellular degeneration, and how to prevent it from occurring in future clones.
Warren manages to perfect his cloning technique, eradicating the problem of cellular degeneration. He creates Kaineās successor, the āperfectā clone.
With his success of having created the perfect clone, Warren seeks to dispose of Kaine, wanting to be rid of any evidence of his failures. Kaine manages to escape, fleeing Warrenās laboratory.
After a confrontation between Peter and Kaineās successor leaves Warren for dead, Kaine (mistakenly) learns that Peter is the clone, and that his successor is the true Parker.
Feeling an odd kinship toward whom he believes to be his fellow clone, Kaine is motivated to give Peter the life he can never have.
Blaming the ātrue Parkerā - who has now taken on the name Ben Reilly - for Warrenās abuse and hatred toward him, Kaine stalks Ben as he leaves New York in self-imposed exile, intent on making his life hell.
YEAR 1
While continuing to make Benās life a living hell, Kaine meets and falls in love with a police detective - Louise Kennedy, but when he discovers her working for criminals, he kills her, driven by his mental instability caused by his cellular degeneration.
Kaine becomes an assassin for a mobster, killing rival mobsters and gangs.
Kaine makes it appear as if the woman Ben loves - Janine Godbe - had committed suicide, and frames Ben for various murders Kaine had committed.
Because Kaine, Ben, and Peter share the same fingerprints, Kaineās attempt to frame Ben backfires, and Peter ends up arrested for the murders.
Peter breaks out of jail temporarily, and, unaware that Kaine is his clone, suspects Ben of the crimes that landed him in jail.
Ben volunteers to take Peterās place in jail, trusting Peter to prove his/their innocence.
Kaine and Peter (as Spider-Man) fight, and Peter forces Kaine to confess during Benās trial that he had framed Ben. Kaine is taken into custody, only to break out of prison shortly after his incarceration.
YEAR 2
Peter allies himself with Warren. Kaine refuses to allow Peter to throw his life away, and confronts Warren.
Warren manipulates Kaine into believing that he can cure Kaine of his cellular degeneration.
Kaine leaves feeling betrayed when Warren reveals that he lied about the cure.
After a conversation with Mary Jane about power and responsibility, Kaine returns to Warrenās laboratory to help Ben fight off numerous Spider-clones.
Kaine saves Warren from Spidercide, but is fatally wounded. When Warren asks why he sacrificed himself for him despite all the wrongs he had done, Kaine replies that Warren had given him life.
Kaineās body is retrieved by the authorities. With no one to help identify or claim the body, he is buried as a John Doe.
YEAR 3
Kaineās unique mutation regenerates his once-dead body, and he rises from his grave.
After learning of Ben's true status as a clone, Kaine begrudgingly saves Ben's life after nearly leaving him to die in a burning diner, but is arrested shortly after. He is sentenced and sent to The Vault, a supermax prison for superhumans.
Breaking out of The Vault, Kaine is hunted by the Kravinoffs for being associated with Spiders. He is captured and tortured, eventually escaping to Peterās apartment.
After Peter leaves to confront the Kravinoffs, Kaine receives a premonition of Spider-Man's death. Intent on saving Peter, Kaine tracks him down, drugs him, and switches places with him to confront the Kravinoffs as Spider-Man.
The Kravinoffs kill āSpider-Manā in a sacrificial ritual meant to resurrect Kraven the Hunter. The ritual does bring Kraven back to life, but he now shares Kaine's apparent inability to die.
After taking down the Kravinoffs, Peter buries Kaine as a Parker.
Shortly after, Kaine rises from the grave yet again, but this time with mutated features, including extra eyes in a spider-like pattern on his forehead
Warren is present at his latest resurrection, and drugs him before taking him to his laboratory, where he further mutates Kaine into a tarantula-like creature with his face resembling that of a spider, as well as six red eyes, and four spider-legs growing from his back
Warren dubs Kaine āTarantulaā and uses him as part of his army in his bid to give the citizens of Manhattan spider-powers.
Spider-Man fights Tarantula, and throws him into the cure meant for the infected citizens of Manhattan. The cure not only reverts Kaine to his human form, but stabilizes his DNA so that he no longer suffers from cellular degeneration, and is now a near perfect copy of Peter, just like Ben, with the only difference between the three being Kaineās height (6ā4ā compared to Peter and Benās (5ā10ā) and added bulk (250 lbs vs 190 lbs).
Kaine receives a stealth suit from Peter, and helps end Warrenās schemes by killing the Spider Queen, moving past Peterās ethical limitations by using lethal force against the Queen.
YEAR 4
Kaine travels the USA to enter Mexico.
While on a stop in Houston, Texas, Kaine saves a young girl named Aracely from human traffickers and leaves her in a hospital. Struck by a sense of responsibility, he returns to save the girl when she is attacked by a hired supervillain.
Kaine gains his āScarlet Spiderā name in his confrontation with said supervillain, who calls him āAraƱa Escarlataā due to the scarlet suit he wears.
Kaineās sense of responsibility toward Aracely led him to stay in Houston as the cityās reluctant hero.
Kaine is attacked by the Assassinsā Guild, who demand their pound of flesh for his time as an assassin working for the mob. After defeating their best assassins, he convinces the leader of the Guild to leave him alone in exchange for one favor, one assassination job that he will fulfill for them in future.
Kaine is hunted by Ana Kravinoff, who tries to kill him in order to free her father from the curse of immortality. He leaves her for dead in the venue of their confrontation, a burning church.
Kaine tries to stop a returning Carnage from retrieving something from a NASA research center, and ends up in the Microverse. With the help of Agent Venom, Kaine is able to defeat Carnage and return to the regular universe.
YEAR 5
Kaine begins to hunt down and eradicate human traffickers in Houston after a young victim of human trafficking is found dead.
During his crusade, he finds himself facing Carlos Lobo and his sister, who had been responsible for Aracely's abuse. The siblings reveal themselves to be werewolves, and after a brutal battle, Kaine is killed.
Kaine finds himself in a vision talking with The Other in its Ero form, who explains that it was the one who had resurrected him after he was killed by the Kravinoffs, in order to allow Kaine to embrace it, as Peter Parker had refused its offer.
Kaine initially refuses the Other's offer, not wanting to become āthe Spiderā or a monster greater than the one he already was. However, he realizes that Aracely still needed his help, and that he has no choice but to embrace the Other, being reborn with augmented powers and a more arachnid-like appearance.
While in his more feral Ascended form, Kaine forces the Lobo siblings to flee, leaving Carlos in a death-like state. But with his human nature gone, Kaine almost makes Aracely his prey, before she manages to use her powers to make Kaine's human side resurface, reverting him to his human form.
YEAR 6
Kaine is hunted by Kraven the Hunter, who drugs him into believing that his cellular degeneration has returned. Kraven also taunts Kaine by appearing as Ben's Scarlet Spider alter ego, wanting to manipulate Kaine into killing him in order to free him from his curse of immortality.
Kraven kidnaps Kaine's friends to further motivate him. After Kraven has one of his friends killed, Kaine does indeed kill Kraven with a fatal blow to the chest that paralyzes his heart, but he brings him back to life using the same attack, supposedly breaking the curse.
Kaine encounters Shathra, an inhabitant of the Astral Plane, and the 'Spider-Wasp' to Peter's 'Spider'. Shathra had originally intended to hunt down Peter to feed him to her hatchlings, but because of Kaine's connection with Peter as a clone, she found him instead.
Finding himself overpowered, Kaine has no choice but to resort to his monstrous Ascended form, killing Shathra in full view of the public. The act makes him realize that he is really a monster pretending to be a hero, and he decides to leave Houston.
Living off of money stolen from criminals, Kaine and Aracely moves to Mexico in order to discover Aracely's origin.
While relaxing on a beach, Kaine and Aracely encounters Faira Sar Namora of Atlantis. After a brief scuffle, the three are captured by Evolutionaries.
Kaine is rescued by the New Warriors after being taken to Wundagore Mountain, and helps the team stop the High Evolutionary from detonating his bomb.
Kaine reluctantly joins the New Warriors, after he is convinced by Justice that the New Warriors can help him become a better person.
YEAR 7
Kaine is attacked by Daemos of the Inheritors, who easily defeats the New Warriors.
Daemos recognizes Kaine as the current reciprocal of the Other, but before the Inheritor can drain Kaine, several multiverse Spider variants arrive, including Gwen Stacy as Spider-Woman, and Ben Reilly as Spider-Man.
Kaine is initially shocked to see Gwen, thinking it might have been another of Warren's schemes, but is convinced otherwise by Reilly.
Kaine is rescued by the multiverse Spiders, who retreat to another earth with the exception of one Spider variant, who is crippled and captured by Daemos.
Kaine, along with Ben and Jessica, travels to another earth, from where the cloned bodies that grants the Inheritors immortality come from.
At the cost of Ben's life, Kaine and Jessica manages to shut down the facility, which was run by the Inheritor Jennix.
Even though it was another earth's Ben Reilly that died sacrificing himself, Kaine is enraged by his death, and travels to the base of the Inheritors, to take revenge on them.
Drawing on the Other's full power, Kaine allows the Other to take control and turn him into a monstrous creature and is able to kill the leader of the Inheritors, Solus.
Kaine dies when the Inheritor Morlun uses one of Kaine's spider legs to stab him in the neck.
The multiversal Spiders manage to stop the Inheritors once and for all. After they return to their respective universes, Kaine emerges from the Other's husk. Because his blood was not spilled onto the Web of Life and Destiny, he still remains the reciprocal of the Other.
YEAR 8
Kaine is called upon by the Master Weaver to help eliminate the Carrion plague affecting multiple universes.
Kaine sets out to travel to these infected universes to investigate the plague and find some kind of cure. The only clue as to how the plague began was the connection of each reality's Parker Industries to their respective pandemic epicenter.
Along with Spider-Woman, the Gwen Stacy of Earth-65, Kaine travels to one of the parallel realities where Peter and Miles Warren had begun to work together in search for a cure, but they are killed by zombies.
Kaine manages to find a research note from that world's Peter before his death and intends to go back to Loomword when he is suddenly confronted by an alternate version of himself who had been infected by the Carrion virus. After a brief fight, his counterpart dies by the virus.
Kaine and Spider-Woman travel to Earth-616 when a new cycle of the plague is about to begin, marked by the appearance of New U Technologies in this universe.
Kaine discovers Ben Reilly (who had assumed Warren's alter ego the Jackal) is responsible for the potential plague when he broadcasted worldwide a frequency that caused all of New U's patients (who are actually clones) to break down
Spider-Man manages to broadcast the opposite signal and stops the outbreak, reverting back to normal all the clones who hadn't yet completely broken down.
YEAR 9
With his world saved from the Carrion apocalypse, Kaine decides to hunt down Ben Reilly, whose apparent death at the hands of the outbreak he correctly assumed had been faked.
Kaine's investigation quickly leads him to Ben's whereabouts in Las Vegas, where he had returned to his identity of the Scarlet Spider.
Kaine eventually confronts Ben and both Scarlet Spiders fight until Ben convinces Kaine to temporarily give up on his quest for revenge. Ben was focusing his efforts on saving the life of Abigail Mercury, a terminally ill child and one of the people New U attempted to replace with a healthy clone. Kaine agrees to let Ben go unless he either succeeds or fails in curing Abigail.
Kaine becomes entangled in several of Ben's subsequent adventures in Las Vegas, including a demonic invasion by Mephisto, during which Ben makes a deal with him to save Abigail's life in exchange for helping him.
YEAR 10
Kaine, along with other heroes, including the Avengers, come together to stop a multiversal threat in Kang, who gathers the Infinity Stones to rewrite reality.
